In 1968, Johnston Industrial Supply was formed by George and Patty Johnston to distribute industrial supplies and equipment to companies in Missouri, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Kansas. From its inception, Johnston Industrial has been dedicated to servicing the customer with prompt, courteous delivery of industrial product at a competitive price level, maintaining a reasonable profit.
In 1970, the original location annexed three other sections of a shopping center as well as five semi trailers to accommodate the inventory and people needed to service the expanding business.
In 1976, the company moved to its present branch location at 1435 North Nias in Springfield, Missouri.
In 1977, the acquisition of Carthage Industrial Supply took place.
In 1980, Carthage Industrial was moved from Carthage to a larger location in Joplin, Missouri and renamed Carthage/Joplin Industrial. It is now known as Johnston Industrial Supply.
In 1985, the Springfield facility expanded its warehouse capacity.
In 1987, a new branch was added in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
In 1990, a new branch was opened in O’Fallon Missouri, a suburb of St. Louis.
In 1993 the O’Fallon location moved to its present location in Maryland heights, a suburb of St. Louis.
In 1994, the ADS (Advanced Distribution Solutions) project was launched and a new facility was opened in Poplar Bluff, Missouri.
In 1997, a new branch was opened in Wichita, Kansas.
In 1998, as a result of our ADS program, a separate company called Johnston Integration Technology was formed to address the integrated supply needs of our growing market.
In 1999, Johnston Integration Technology-Aviation was formed to address and service our rapidly growing business with aviation companies.
In 2000, Johnston Integration Technology-Aviation moved into a larger facility in Tulsa.
Also in 2000, Johnston Companies joined Affiliated Distributors, our industry’s premier marketing organization.
In 2001, Susie Johnston was named Chief Executive Officer, paving the way for Johnston Companies to qualify as a Women Owned Business (certification pending).
